How The GreenMist was Created
April 20, 2014 | Growlinga Studio
When we started programming The GreenMist, we didn’t start any journal that talked about its planning process including programming, design or music.
But we can save some images, we arranged them so they can show part of the development in a chronological form.
Unfortunately, after formatting the hard drive many times, the initial images were lost…for example, the screenshots from the first scenes, where Bidi and the other items were nothing more but colored little squares and by mistake they wouldn’t even fall from above the screen, they just accumulated right on the top.
So where did the idea come from?
In a black notebook property of GreenMist (every game designer should have one!) was a little game to get falling things in a bucket…
Then we started working on that game and each one of its characters, giving them their personality and story besides some surprises that were added to the game later…
The basket finally became Bidi, a small citizen of planet 500B1…

Then we thought this should finally be our scene for the game(after a dozen of icons and characters arranges)…

Then we thougt to give Bidi some help, so we created a bouncing ball inspired in Arcanoid
We didn’t use box2D, so we tried to solve the bounce of the ball in a different way…
Then, The GreenMist ended up having three game modes. Arcade, Mission and Survivor…

But after many tests, and with some modifications, SURVIVOR was the only one that was kept, now you can choose up to three weapons and play all the time you could surviving The GreenMist’s attack…

The GreenMist had lost the ARCADE and MISSION modes…well, not entirely…these might revive…maybe soon enough, just like The GreenMist did on that laboratory =)
